Home Zones - Consultation Events The team working on the proposed Home Zone for Hanover are planning events at which they can meet local residents and obtain their views. There will be a drop-in event at the Hanover Community Centre on September 24th & 25th and community workshops later on in November. Four roads in Hanover – Cobden Road, Ewart Street, Hampden Road and Grove Street – are under consideration for any Home Zone ‘treatment’.The roads around them have not been forgotten and residents there will also have the chance to have their say and have any questions or issues addressed. If you’d like to volunteer or find out more, go along to the events or contact: Peter Bloxham, the Council’s Project Manager on 01273 290000, email , or Jennie Leggatt, the TPi Consultation Manager, on 0208 464 8095 email [email protected]. The local Councillors involved are Joyce Edmond-Smith, Bill Randall and Georgia Wrighton – all available on 01273 290000. You can find out more about Home Zones by visiting www.homezonenews.org.uk

The Tarner World Festival 4th September - The Tarner World Festival on 4th September began with a procession from the Millwood and Phoenix Centres, and culminated at Richmond Parade with dance, music and food.

Hanover Day 15th August - The Hanover Day 2004 celebrations passed off without a hitch, and everyone seemed to agree that the event was a great success. The day began as usual with the congregation of the Annunciation Church joining the Fancy Dress Parade through the streets of Hanover. There were stalls lining Washington Street and Coleman Street, and other attractions included live music, food and drink, a fire engine (and fire-fighters) to admire, clown, jugglers, stilt-walkers, Morris Men and, of course, Hanover’s famous pubs. A big thank you to the Brighton Morris Men for their donation of £600.00 to HCA.They collected the money during their ‘Day of Dance’ earlier this year and presented the cheque on Hanover Day. We will be putting the money towards improvements to the Community Centre. The continued support of the Brighton Morris Men and their long association with the Hanover Centre is much appreciated. Special thanks also to Magpie who recycled waste during the day, and to the Council’s street cleaning team who tidied up afterwards.

A Home Zone has been initiated in Grove Street, Ewart Street and some other streets. This is good news for the residents of those streets, but bad news for the residents of streets without speed bumps, which will now be more heavily used as 'rat runs' than before.

    New Ward Boundaries announced
The Local Government Commission for England has now submitted its recommendations for new ward boundaries in Brighton & Hove.
We are pleased to announce that the proposal for a new joint Hanover and Elm Grove ward will mean that the heart of Hanover is retained within one ward.
It is proposed that the new ward will start at Albion Hill and extend up to Bear Road, bound on one side by Lewes Road and Queens Park Road on the other side. Therefore this new ward will include parts of the current Hanover, Kings Cliff, Queens Park and Tenantry wards.
Copies of the proposal (including a map showing the boundaries) are available from the
Hanover Community Centre. Comments (due by 23 April) should be directed to the Review Manager, Brighton & Hove Review, Local Government Commission for England, Dolphyn Court, 10/11 Great Turnstile, London, WC1V 7JU or by e-mail: [email protected]
