Our Community News Events |
||||
The 818 Club is run by Adventure Unlimited, a registered charity, founded in 1977 and based in Sussex. The charity aims to enrich the lives of young people, in particular those from disadvantaged backgrounds, through exciting, outdoor adventurous and educational events. Up to two thousand individuals participate in events run by our experienced and qualified staff each year. |
1. A nervous smile ... |

2. Over the edge - the hard bit ... |
We provide the challenge, reassurance and inspiration; the individual provides the enthusiasm. It's a recipe for achievement and rewards: raising self-esteem, confidence and awareness of and respect for self, others and the environment. We also offer training, work experience, qualifications and improved chances of employment to medium- and long-term unemployed adults. |
||||
As their experience and confidence grows, individual trainees take increasing responsibility for the design and running of activities for young people from their local communities. Some trainees join our permanent staff; others enter different fields of employment, such as residential care work, youth work and teaching. |
3. A nice day for it ... |

4. The human fly ... |
These pictures are from the Sponsored Abseil at Peacehaven heights for Adventure Unlimited's Minibus Appeal. Our minibus, which was in constant use and has transported thousands of children to events, finally expired. |
||||
The Variety Club of Great Britain agreed to provide a replacement, provided that we contributed £5,000 towards the costs.To help us reach this target, we invited members of the public to take part in a sponsored abseil on Sunday 11th October. 1998. The venue was Peacehaven heights: 35 metres (or 115 feet) of the South Coast's finest chalk. |
5. Nearly there ... phew! |
