St John's Place, Brighton, BN2 2GR - Tel: (01273) 607651 head Teacher: Mrs C H Richmond Our School Tarnerland is a state nursery school, run by Brighton and Hove Education Authority. The school keeps normal school holidays, and there is no charge for attending. We are committed to a policy of multi-cultural, anti-racist education, and a belief in equal opportunities for girls and boys covering all areas of the curriculum. |
We cater for children from 3-5 years of age, attending either 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week. There are 2 groups of children per session, who meet with 2 teachers and 3 NNEBs. Lunch is available for some children. Please ask the school for a prospectus for details. |

History The history of the school goes back to 1933, when it was the Margaret McMillan Open Air Nursery School. It was later named after Miss Letitia Tilbury Tarner, who donated the money to purchase the site (£800). |
The school relocated to Glyndebourne for a short time during the war, but returned just before Carlton Hill was bombed. A booklet about the history of the school (from which these photos are taken) is available from Tarnerland. |
